Ghee (or clarified butter) is one of the best oils to cook with.
Learn to make it at a fraction of the price as what you’d pay at the supermarket.
How to Make Homemade Ghee
Ingredients
- 2 pounds organic unsalted butter (grass fed is best)
Instructions
- Unwrap butter and place into a medium saucepan.
- Heat the butter over medium heat until completely melted on medium head.
- Cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the butter foams and boils twice.
- When the second foam occurs, the ghee is done.
- At this point, the butter will be separated into bright gold/light brown melted oil, foam, and crunchy milk solids.
- Pour through a wire mesh strainer lined with 4-6 layers of cheesecloth into a mason or other glass storage jar with a lid, removing all but the clarified butter, or ghee.
- DON’T STORE IN PLASTIC, especially since the ghee will be very hot. Discard the foam and crunchy milk solids and store in the fridge for up to 3 months.
- Use ghee for any recipes you’d typically use butter, especially for cooking at higher temperatures as it does not burn the way butter can.
